Jennifer Garner, who was born in and raised in Charleston West Virginia, on April 17th, 1973 was born in Houston, Texas. The father of Jennifer Garner, William John Garner, was a chemical engineer at Union Carbide. Patricia Ann was a teacher at the local school. She graduated with a chemical engineering degree to follow her father. In order to pursue her dream of acting the actress decided to move in New York and try her attempt at the world of Hollywood. Chefs were employed at the restaurant in New York, and was a part of Broadway productions. She was in as a guest in the TV show "Felicity." This was here that she became acquainted with Scott Foley, her first husband. Garner was first seen in Alias, an action thriller. Her first big role was the widely-praised romance 13 Going on 30. She played a teenager trapped inside a 30plus year old's body. Garner chose Gary Winick (director) to create the film. The two looked for new opportunities until Winick passed away in 2011. Garner was awarded the title artist ambassador in 2009 for Save the Children U.S.A. The job entails the promotion of national literacy, nutrition, and early education. In 2014, Garner has been a part of the board of trustees of the organization. She has been pushing for early elementary education. In her role as an ambassador, Garner visits often with the families who participate in Early Steps to School Success, a program that coaches parents on how to help young children to learn.
